Refurbishing a Vintage Louis Vuitton Keepall Bag

A vintage Louis Vuitton Keepall bag is more than just a fashion accessory; it is a piece of history. These iconic bags have stood the test of time, and their classic design remains sought after by fashion enthusiasts around the world. If you're lucky enough to own a vintage Keepall bag, refurbishing it can breathe new life into its beauty and ensure it continues to stay in your collection for years to come. This post / YouTube video will guide you through the process of refurbishing your beloved bag, celebrating its heritage while restoring its original glory.

  1. Assessing the Bag's Condition: Before embarking on your refurb journey, carefully assess the condition of your vintage bag. Look for signs of wear, such as scratches, scuffs, faded leather, tarnished hardware, or loose stitching. Understanding the extent of the bag's condition will help you plan the refurbishment process effectively.

  2. Cleaning the Exterior: Start the process by gently cleaning the bag's exterior with baby wipes. Avoid rubbing abrasive materials or chemicals that can damage the canvas. Pay special attention to corners and seams where dirt may accumulate. I also recommend wiping the interior with the wipes as well/

  3. Restoring Leather Trim: The leather trim on a Keepall can develop a beautiful patina over time, but it may also show signs of wear. Consider using a high-quality leather conditioner to nourish and restore the leather's suppleness. This will help reduce the appearance of scratches and scuffs, enhancing the bag's overall appearance. Please refer to the YT video for my exact cleaning and moisturizing process. Below are a few of my favorite cleaning products.

  4. Reviving Hardware: The metal hardware on your Keepall  can lose its luster over time. Gently clean the hardware with a soft cloth and a mild metal cleaner to remove tarnish and restore its shine. I like Brasso for locks since they are 100% brass and I like blue magic for the rest of the hardware. Generally, I use q-tips, mini paintbrushes and baby wipes to help remove tarnish.                                                                                                                                      Blue magic metal cleanerBrasso brass cleanerPaintbrushesAmaozn baby wipes
