Are Amazon’s Pre-Owned Designer Bags Authentic? | PRELUXE
Can You Trust Pre-Owned Designer Bags on Amazon?
Paper towels, dog treats… and a pre-loved Chanel? Amazon’s luxury resale selection might surprise you. Through its Luxury Stores storefront, shoppers can browse secondhand designer bags from established resale businesses.
But when a handbag costs thousands of dollars, a familiar checkout page is only part of the equation. Who authenticates the bag? What do customers say? And what happens if something isn’t right?
At PRELUXE, we believe those questions belong on every luxury shopper’s checklist. Here’s what to know before adding that designer find to your cart.
Who Is Selling the Bags?
Amazon’s pre-loved luxury offerings include inventory from resellers such as What Goes Around Comes Around (WGACA), Rebag, and myGemma. Rebag launched its Luxury Stores partnership in June 2025, announcing nearly 30,000 pre-owned luxury items across handbags, watches, and jewelry.
The important detail: authentication is handled by the resale partner. Amazon’s own coverage, for example, identifies WGACA as the authenticator for its pre-loved collections. A reseller’s authenticity guarantee should not be confused with authentication or endorsement by the original designer brand.
Always check the actual seller. A bag found through a general Amazon search should not automatically be treated as part of one of these luxury resale partnerships. See the example below: or click here to see an example that leaves you asking questions.
What Do Customers Say?
The Amazon-specific feedback we found includes positive experiences, but it is too limited to establish a reliable overall verdict.
In one Reddit discussion, a shopper reported a successful Louis Vuitton purchase through Rebag on Amazon, with signature confirmation at delivery. The buyer also recommended comparing the price against Rebag’s other storefronts.
A blogger who purchased a Louis Vuitton Neverfull through Amazon’s WGACA selection described timely delivery and satisfaction with her purchase. However, she said she assumed the bag was authentic based on its appearance and quality. Her article also contains affiliate links. That makes it a shopping testimonial, rather than independent authentication evidence.
There are complaints, too. One customer on WGACA’s Better Business Bureau review page alleged that a Chanel wallet-on-chain purchased through Amazon Luxury arrived defective and that a refund was refused. This is an individual, unverified customer account, but it highlights why return protection matters alongside authenticity.
Broader reviews of the resale companies cover both buying and selling. Keep those experiences separate: a complaint about a delayed seller payout does not establish that a handbag purchased from that company is counterfeit.
Why the WGACA–Chanel Lawsuit Matters
Any discussion of WGACA’s authenticity claims should acknowledge its legal dispute with Chanel.
A jury ruled against WGACA in 2024. The February 2025 judgment ordered $4 million in statutory damages for Chanel-branded handbags bearing counterfeit trademarks and restricted authentication claims unsupported by WGACA’s own records.
WGACA is appealing; oral arguments were heard on September 21, 2026. The case concerns specific goods and marketing practices. It does not establish that all WGACA products, or its Amazon inventory, are counterfeit.
For shoppers, the lesson is straightforward: an authenticity claim deserves supporting documentation, regardless of the retailer’s size or name recognition.
What the Industry Coverage Tells Us
Publications including Vogue Business and Retail TouchPoints have covered Amazon’s luxury resale expansion as a significant business move. Amazon gives resellers access to shoppers who already know its platform, while buyers gain another place to browse pre-owned designer pieces.
That coverage confirms the partnerships and their commercial importance. It does not independently verify every bag offered through them. In the sources we reviewed, we did not find an independent study measuring counterfeit rates specifically for Amazon’s pre-loved luxury handbags.
Before You Buy, Check These Five Things
1. The seller: Identify the business selling the bag and who performed the authentication.
2. The exact item: Look for photos of the actual bag, detailed wear descriptions, and disclosure of repairs or alterations.
3. The guarantee: Read what the authenticity protection covers and what evidence is required if you dispute it.
4. The return terms: Confirm the deadline, exclusions, and any tag requirements before checking out. Arrange independent authentication within the return window if you want a second opinion.
5. The price: Compare the same item across storefronts, accounting for condition and included accessories. Often prices are inflated to account for Amazon fees.
The PRELUXE Perspective
Amazon offers another avenue for shopping pre-loved luxury. Our advice is to evaluate the seller, the individual bag, price, and the protections behind the purchase with the same care you would anywhere else.
At PRELUXE, every product is authenticated by us. We are also happy to provide certificates from a third party for bags over $1500 at request (fees may apply). We believe shoppers deserve clear information and the chance to ask questions before making an investment in something they love.
